Power's "EV Adoption Score," which is weighted based on market, consumer preference and EV availability, among other conditions, with a score of 33.8. Hawaii also is the top state for EV adoption that hasn't agreed to the California Air Resources Board's Zero-Emission Vehicle program, according to J.D. (For reference, the "Hawaii Belt" around the Big Island, or Hawaii Island, is only about 260 miles.) Power reports the top-selling EVs in the state are the Tesla Model Y, Tesla Model 3 and Ford F-150 Lightning.

"The hurricane is likely near its peak intensity, although some small fluctuations cannot be ruled out today," the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) said, with Norma still some 245 miles (394 km) away from the port city Manzanillo. The forecaster said Norma would likely begin weakening from Friday through the weekend, and approach land from late Friday. Baja California is home to the Los Cabos beach resorts. An area of high pressure over the Atlantic, known as the Bermuda High, will have a major influence on how quickly Lee turns. As the high pressure weakens this week, it will allow Lee to start moving northward. Lee could make a quick turn to the north early this week if high pressure weakens significantly. If the jet stream sets up along the East Coast, it will act as a barrier that prevents Lee from approaching the coast. SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Tropical Storm Lee strengthened into a hurricane on Wednesday as it churned through the open waters of the Atlantic on a path that would take it near the northeast Caribbean. The hurricane was located about 1,130 miles (1,815 kilometers) east of the northern Leeward Islands. A shark attacked a 22-year-old woman while she was snorkeling in Turks and Caicos. A hotel employee who witnessed the incident said the victim had her leg bitten off, police said. An employee of the resort called for an ambulance and indicated that the victim had her leg bitten off, the police saidThe woman remains in serious condition in hospital, the police statement said. There were just 57 unprovoked shark bites worldwide last year, of which five were fatal, according to the University of Florida's International Shark Attack File. A rare subtropical December storm could form in the Atlantic this week, marking the first in nearly a decade. Although the Atlantic hurricane season ended Nov. 30, an area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms in the central tropical Atlantic have a 40% chance of developing into a subtropical storm in two days, and a 50% chance in five days. The last time there was a December subtropical storm was nine years ago in 2013. The next name on the list for a storm is Owen, following Hurricane Nicole which pummeled the east coast of Florida last month. A subtropical storm has a maximum sustained surface wind speed of 39 mph, according to the weather agency.
